Agile Leadership

Changing times call for effective leaders who can create impact despite complexity, ambiguity and resistance. Around the world, schools are under pressure to develop new and broader outcomes, utilise evidence-informed teaching practices, and create innovative learning designs. Agile leadership provides a dynamic approach to leading change that will enable leaders to maximise their impact, harness evidence and create effective local solutions.

Leaders will learn how to:

  • Adopt an agile mindset to thrive despite uncertainty and complexity
  • Focus on a small number of high-impact improvement approaches
  • Implement small and learn fast through disciplined inquiry
  • Move from ‘pockets of excellent practice’ to new common practice
  • Gather and use evidence to guide all phases of improvement work
  • Build the norms and routines of high-impact, fast moving leadership teams
  • Harness contemporary research into the science of learning, teaching practices and professional learning to inform and refine improvement strategies

Foundations of Agile Leadership

This 1-day intensive program explores the Agile Leadership framework for creating impact within your unique school context. Leaders will gain a clear understanding of the key mindset, skills and tools that can help them to accelerate their current improvement work and manage the change process.

Agile Leadership Into Action

This is a highly practical program designed to build the capabilities of leaders to ‘change how they lead change’ in their schools. By building confidence in the Agile Leadership frameworks and tools, participants are provided with a practical way to take meaningful action. Leadership teams are supported to move from theory to practice as they shift from the leadership intensives into the grounded work within their schools, before returning to unpack the lessons learned and planned for the next phase of improvement work.

This program consists of:

  • 3 x Leadership workshop days
  • Online videos and resources
  • Embedded school improvement work

This program can be completed as three separate workshop days or as a 2 + 1 format.

Agile Leadership Into Action Overview

Agile Leadership Accelerator Days

Accelerator days are designed to accelerate implementation, increase accountability and support sustainable meaningful change. We draw together motivated senior leadership teams that have completed the Agile Leadership into Action course, and who are working to embed the practice of Agile Leadership into their regular team norms and routines. These days take the form of an ‘action lab’ to support building mastery in the key skills, tools and effective planning for the next steps.

During each accelerator day participants will:

  1. Review and reset  :  Analyse what has worked and what hasn’t over the last 90 days and share their learnings and successes.
  2. Think and Learn  :  Engage with contemporary research in learning, teaching and school improvement and consider how it can inform their strategy.
  3. Design and plan  :  Create the next 90-day agile plan so that teams leave with clarity and motivation to deliver with speed and precision.

Multiple Accelerator Days can be run for the same group over a period of 6 months to 24 months in order to sustain momentum and embed changed leadership practices.

Teachers comments...

The program has encouraged me to re-think my approach to leading change and provided a set of radically different strategies that I believe will lead to sustainable improvement in my school.
The program was great – it was the best, most practical professional development day I’ve been to in ages! Working with “sprints” with our teachers has been very successful and I look forward to moving from implementing the “prototype Sprint” to the real deal.
It was inspirational and transforming.
The best training I have ever had. I am walking away with a wealth of knowledge and understand and the desire to continue to make teaching and learning better in my school.
This program is valuable because of its ability to be applied to all contexts. It’s a short, achievable and effective process.
This is a realistic program to improve student achievement – it helps teachers focus on improving all students in their class within their class, without having to “add on” another program.
The Improvement Sprints into Action program is not an add on. It is doable, achievable and manageable. Sprints is about improving student outcomes, using quality evidence to drive improvement and build collaboration in teams with the same small focus.
The Sprints method is a quick way to use evidence in a faster way to see student improvement. There is no extra work on teachers. It’s about collecting data and proving outcomes, but is much quicker and more effective.
This program provides a tool for teachers to have a very explicit process to leading outcomes for students at the forefront with their peers.
I walked away with a plan to take back to school, scaled at a level that will enable students to develop a skill across a short period of time.
The Learning Sprints Program has given our Middle Leaders both skills and confidence to lead their teams to rapidly improve student learning outcomes.
I really appreciate the structure of the program and the time for exploring and then ‘diving deep’ to talk, share and draw on the collective knowledge of the group. I love the model – it’s probably the most logical, sensible and ‘doable’ approach I’ve seen to improvement – the missing piece.
This program has shifted my mindset and helped me get more focused on the essentials of my position. I have learned to take small steps to have bigger impact!
I have been teaching for over 28 years. This is hands down one of the best professional development workshops I have ever attended. THIS program gives you time to reflect and to learn from the other experts in the room.
Highly recommend it.
Very practical, aligned to the real work of schools/teachers and students. Love the idea of small is the new big!
I love how this process can fit within current work to accelerate learning.
I found the most valuable part of the program was that it provides a means of getting to the really challenging aspects of teaching in a team context. It means we can address the “hard stuff” that teachers avoid or sometimes cannot identify. It helped us create a clear plan of future action.
This program provides a clear goal and process for a new master teacher.
This is a real framework to allow teachers to have data conversations that are deep and meaningful leading into improved outcomes for all students.
The Improvement Sprints into Action program is very relevant to my work. It’s very practical and has given me a clear process and tools to implement immediately.
The practicality and manageability level of the Sprints process is the best part of the program. The rationale behind it fits so well with the messy complexity of teaching. It helps change the focus from teaching practice to student outcomes through effective practice.
